Berkeley School Board Director!
Dear Friends/Amigas,
Its amazing and true we actually did it! We won!! Not only did I win the election, I received the most votes as school board director! This feat was accomplished because of YOU, YOU and YOU! Thank you so much for giving me your endorsement, donating to the campaign, volunteering to call, walking precincts, standing at BART and Back to School Night(s) handing out flyers, coming out to forums, registering voters, talking to your neighbors, friends and family in Berkeley to vote for me, placing signs all over the city and motivating me to run for School Board with your smiles, handshakes and words of encouragement.
Like our newly elected president, I no longer have my parents or grandparents to see this monumental moment in our Mexican family history, an elected Leyva to office! So, I am counting on my nuclear family and my huge community of friends, comadres/compadres and supporters to come out and celebrate this win by coming to the swearing-in ceremony on December 10th at Council Chambers 2134 Martin Luther King Dr. Berkeley 7pm. In the interim, it is important to note that our work as a community begins with implementing the 2020 Vision and bringing all partners and our combined WILL to create change and positive learning experiences for all of our students in Berkeley. We have many who believe in the 2020 VISION and that this plan is the blueprint for how we will and can create a positive learning experience for students in Berkeley.

On November 4th as we all looked at the election results and heard our President Elect Barack Obama speak it was not too hard to feel in the air how his leadership inspires us all to step up, join together and seize the moment to create the positive change that we all strive to see in our cities, state and nation. For us here in Berkeley - it is about together creating academic success for our children and youth-because children are our legacy. I invite you to join the school district, the city council, leaders in the community and parents to find out how you can be part of the 2020 Vision.
